Generalist vs Specific PE

Hi monkeys,

Heard from a friend working in secondaries that many LPs are shifting towards specialist PEs. I am curious to know how the work differs at a sector-specific vs generalist PE, mainly if you have worked in both. Are specialist PEs more hands-on with portcos? How accurate is it to say that specialist PEs generate better returns?

Also what are some top specialist PE/GE shops?

thanks!
