You will get drug tested if they take money from most public pension funds. It is legal if you are regulated under federal law which supersedes NYC rules. It’s why banks can still do it. Practically, just don’t smoke until get the gig and start (even if it’s a small chance why would you for that kind of job?)

At a similar firm and it’s shitty but we still do it. If you have a police pension fund or a southern state’s pension fund as an LP they almost always require drug testing for employees. Associates we hired this past year were still doing them post the NYC law change in 2020
