Headhunter Double Tap
I'm currently wrapping up my first year at a fund and am looking to jump ship (variety of reasons). I was placed by a headhunter that covers a lot of opportunities I'm interested in and is currently running a search for a fund I'd consider lateraling to.
Do I run any risk of getting fk'd over by this headhunter if I reach out to them and let them know I want to leave? I know they will get my placement bonus as soon as I get my first year bonus so I don't think they'd care but the headhunter placement process/confidentiality is a bit of a black box for me. Thanks for any input guys
They are professionals...they're not going to tell your firm or they risk severe reputational damage. And reputation is incredibly, incredibly important in the headhunting industry.
They won't fuck you over but they probably will not be able to work with you unless they get permission to do so from your firm.
Your recruiter likely has a long-term relationship with your fund beyond just recruiting you, and won't want to fuck that steady income stream up by helping someone else poach you.
