Help! Renege lateral offer in the same building

Hi all,

I’m sincerely asking for some thoughts regarding my situation:

I was IBD 2nd yr analyst and got a MM PE offer ($500mm AUM) Around 2 days before join date, I received another PE offer (lager but I would not call it MF, $5bn AUM). First one is doing mid cap buyout while the 2nd one is doing large cap buyout. Obviously the 2nd one has better brand name, higher pay and maybe a better career prospect. (I think brand name is important for juniors, especially the starting point for buyside after banking, correct me if I’m wrong..)

But the tricky point is that it’s just around 2 days prior to the start date, and the two firms happen to be in the same building….my concern is that PE is a very small world so I’m worried abt the reputation, and what if the furious MD called up and both offers lapsed…

Should I renege the offer for the other one? Really need some help here. Thanks much!
