How do PE firms verify transcripts/grades?
Hey guys, how do PE firms verify grades? I know with MM PE funds, many of them don't even ask for a transcript. But for the ones that do request an official transcript, how do they get it? Is it that you bring it to them or sign over the rights to a background company to run a check, including academic records? I wrote up a 3.44 to a 3.5 (pretty minor but still) and just had some concerns
You authorize your school to release a copy to them.
How often do they ask for transcripts this way? And do firms ever just ask you to bring them a official copy yourself?
No clue how often - my firm did not ask for one, but that was also after two years in banking, so they did not do a background check either. The reason they don't ask you to bring it yourself should be obvious to you....These guys look for fraud and reasons not to invest in something more than they do reasons why they should invest in a company. PE should be called "just check the boxes" in most cases.
