u need to look at LinkedIn to answer these sorts of questions. just go past company e.g. citi current company e.g. Carlyle and you will see who went there from Citi and their role. dont forget PE associate classes are way smaller than banking classes so dont be disheartened if you see like one person from ur firm at a large cap PE firm youre targeting.
It’s more about what group you are in, and how good you are.
Being in a good group will land you interviews, and being a good candidate will land you an offer. You’re not just going to be guaranteed an offer by being at a top BB - several kids at my MF are incoming from “mid” BBs who landed offers over “top” BB analysts.
If you’re in a bad group then you probably won’t get great interview looks though.
Both group and UG would be important for MF and UMM. If you are at a top half group at a mid bb and graduated from a top target, your chances are not that low actually and will be orders of magnitude higher than a peer in your group from a non target.
Ignore the flair. Went to a semitarget and currently at a EB (reputable group) and had no issues getting MF interviews. My friends at GS/MS/EVR/PJT-type banks had no problem either. Granted I didn't go to a no-name school but rather one that would be consistently considered a semi target.

If you have a good resume/GPA you shouldn't have a problem getting interviews in this situation
