How to bag an off cycle internship

As December slowly creeps in, I still haven’t been able to secure a summer role.

At this point I just wanna jump right in to an internship anywhere so I don’t waste another year. Any tips or advice?

What would be the best way to reach out to a boutique in NYC to secure placement? Should I deliver a pizza pie w my resume attached inside?

I should note I’m sophmore/junior status and I’m curious about PE but I wanna try something in sales and trading.

Sounds like you are all over the place my friend.

Definitely don't sneak your resume in... internships are pretty open to different schools these days but you still have to go through the proper channels. And that is - networking. You can look that up on here for more info, but you basically need to be reaching out to lots of aso/VP types at these small firms and getting them on the phone.

Also, are you a sophomore or junior? Most junior internships hire 1-1.5 years in advance so I would recommend trying to graduate in Dec 2025 or spring 2026 if you have any choice - to give you an idea of how far out things go, 2025 recruiting is already starting for IB. NYC is also the most competitive market to try to land PE by a huge amount, so would recommend you look in smaller markets like where you go to school, hometown etc. Even a 10 man tiny shop is good experience for you.

Finally, I know it feels really early but I would spend a bit of time understanding PE vs S&T and just try to pick a path. Those are polar opposite careers in finance and if you tell someone you're recruiting for both they will question how serious you are about either one. Gotta pick one and become knowledgeable in that area.
