How to plan for MBB exit to Private Equity Ops/ Value Creation?

Hello everyone, wanted to get some advice.

For background I'm an advanced degree candidate (US M.D), recently received a BCG full-time offer as a consultant in the U.S. Still waiting to hear back from McKinsey (got their summer program, McKinsey Insight) as they haven't released interviews yet.

I'm interested in exiting to PE Ops/ value creation after MBB, preferably with a healthcare related role (pharma, medtech, provider etc) so I can leverage my background to some extent. My main questions are:

1.) What type of projects should I do to make myself competitive for a PE Ops role? I know for buyside recruiting it's just to grind DDs but it seems Ops is quite different given it's post-deal.

2.) How does BCG staff their PE practice? Would I be region locked?

3.) Any other advice for an advanced degree joining MBB out of med school?

Thanks and take care!

Will do, thank you! It's just that it's harder to get staffed nowadays and I want to know what kind of projects I need to network for to set myself up

You probably need to get into PIPE and do some CDD, and to get into PIPE you need to do well on whatever you get staffed on first. Alternative is to get on the right ops projects, and once again to get your pick of ops projects you need to do well on whatever you get staffed on first. So focus on doing well. And understand that even if you do well, this is a long putt — not that many folks make the transition you’re thinking of trying to make.

Got it, will definitely keep the various factors in mind. Just want to set myself up so even if one path doesn't work I'll have alternatives.

Yes! Top 20 private US M.D that's going directly to MBB from med school without residency. Clinical medicine just wasn't right for me as I found out during med school.
