How to recruit for different geographies

Currently at an EB in LA in M&A and Restructuring - always wanted to recruit for NYC PE - anybody has done it before / how can it work? Assuming on cycle won't hit until later this year when we get back to office, but wanted to see how people were able to step out for interviews - flying back and forth seems impractical on weekdays and a huge signal to the firm that I'm trying to leave and bad rep on MD's to do that.

Anyone have advice? Are NY firms receptive to interviewing on weekends for candidates on the west coast / how common is that? Or would they be able to hire from a Zoom superday

I did my investment banking in SF/Hou/CHI/LA and recruited for NYC PE. It was extremely difficult as I was competing against analysts a few blocks away whereas I had to fly in to interview. It is doable but very tough. Remote WFM might help with this in the future but the only way I was able to interview was to be upfront with my team that I was recruiting. They were not thrilled but I worked hard to make sure travel and interview did not impact my work.

At the end of the day you have to have a reason or angle for recruiting in a particular location. One way I mitigated risk was telling a firm I was talking to that another firm was flying me in to meet and to see if they could take time to meet with me.
