IB/PE in Infrastructure & Energy, thoughts ?
Hello everyone,
I am currently on my gap year, and in my first part internship at a French DFI on a Infrastructure/FIG private debt rotation, I have also completed another apprenticeship at another DFI but in a more diversified portfolio... I am getting more and more interested in Infrastructure, but I don't know what is my next move...
I don't have Investment Banking on my resume, I am mediocre modelling wise, but my long term goal is Infrastructure Private Equity in Africa.. what should be my next move :) ? How to prepare technically, is it a good career ? Is there going to be more openings in the future ?
Infra is good but can be hard to get out of infra/energy so I'd use internships to make sure you really like the space
What type of African PE are you looking for? There's not much in that space because those markets are difficult and risky - political and regulatory landscapes are generally pretty unstable which adds a lot of risk that most infra investors don't want to take on when they can get a healthy, low-risk return in a developed market
AIIM is an infra firm that does work in Africa. The World Bank does work there too. But generally would not make career decisions based on an interest in this specific geography because it's ultra-niche
Hey, thanks for your answer
I’m thinking funds not only that are in Africa, but others that focus on Africa such as Meridiam for instance, Antin Capital Partners..
I don't think Antin invests in Africa but willing to be wrong. It's just a really small space because of the tough environment over there, total PE investment in African infra is like $1B a year which is not a lot
