Internship at a small Venture Fund in SV - Salary?

Hi,

Would you have any clue at which all-in compensation level an intern at a small Venture PE firm based in Menlo Park would be at? 4-6 months assignment, participating to business plan modelling, meeting targeted companies with a Partner, meeting portfolio companies for follow-ups, helping with legal counsels coordination accross multiple deals at the same time.

Any recent experience would be appreciated -

Thank you

There is a wide range here, and it will all depend on your background/qualifications and what you are bringing to the table. Do you have industry contacts and ability to source deals from your network? If so, you will be compensated very competitively.

On the flip side, if you are a fresh grad or entry level employee, I have seen small VCs (50-100m) paying something like $10/per hour. At this end of the market you are basically just putting together marketing materials and doing research. At best you can put "VC intern" on your resume and exit someplace. Guessing from your title you will probably not be on this side of the spectrum, so unfortunately I can't help too much.

OK got it. Honestly, you can pretty much set your price and you will have takers for it. Depending on how big/red-tape oriented your firm is (read: how many legal approvals you need) you can pay whatever you feel like; especially for undergrad interns. I only have one data point from a small VC in San Jose that I interviewed for, and they offered me $10/hour. Luckily an FT offer in banking came along so I took that instead.
