Is it okay to leave my job after one year at a prestigious institutional investor?
Hi all, appreciate some advise. I’m currently on a pre-mba program at a large institutional investor focusing on PE. My boss had mentioned that there remains a possibility that I get converted to a full time (as he likes my performance, but still uncertain about headcount) but a competing peer institution institutional investor (smaller in AUM but also quite reputable) has offered me a full time role (similar all in comp) doing the same thing. Only problem is, I’ve just been in the current company for only a year, was wondering if this might be unadvisable? Thanks
context is I’ve 2.5 years of experience in PE, spent 1.5 years at another company post graduation
You have 2.5 years of work experience, including 1 year at your current firm, yet you say your current boss isn’t sure you have a full time offer secure? Arnt you full time now?
In any case, just tell your current boss you have to take an offer that secures your future.
Hi! Thanks so much for the reply! Yup it’s actually a pre-mba program (which lasts for two years), so I’m at the halfway point now. Recently got offered an additional year of extension on the contract, but still no indication of a perm. My boss has said that he will support my conversion eventually but no clarity on that still.
