Is it possible to get into PE with a lot of unrelated experience?
Not sure if someone has already asked this question, but here it goes:
My background:
• Master’s in finance from top 100 but non target school, graduated in 2014 (yeah…I know!).
• Had couple of jobs with unrelated experience for totally 6 years.
• Got into business valuation 3 years ago and now working in valuation group in a top PE fund.
• Solid understanding of deal process, LBO modeling and industry the fund invests in.
• CFA charter holder.
I understand that my chance of getting into PE deal team is very small with this background, even those small/tiny funds, and I guess I am also too old to get into IB or MBA now.
But I still wanted to give myself a year and try the best I can, for opportunities or at least for closure.
So I was wondering if there is any way, any chance that I could still make this happen, if yes, what would be best way to do this?
Sincerely appreciate any comments/suggestions, good, bad and ugly, no hard feelings.
