Is it wrong to leverage my dad and his connections for a PE offer?

I’m a first year M&A analyst at a strong group. My dad is an operating partner and on a few boards and holds a C Suite role in a company that’s about to merge. The fund is middle market sized, but he’s in good standing with the current sponsors and the new sponsors are excited to bring him over, the merged platform is going to take a lot of market share and seems like there are a lot of levers to pull. He mentioned I can get an intro to the founders/partners at the new fund, and they'd likely be receptive just given the scale of this platform relative to the fund. Any thoughts?

As a person who went to a target school and who had no connections in finance prior to breaking in, use your connections. I was always jealous of those who had connections, but also knew that if I had them, I would totally use them. Use them!

no brainer to use them. if you don't, somebody with connections will and they will beat you/get the job. the longer you are in this business, you'll learn there's a ton of nepotism - like every other/every third person seemingly has some major connection or grew up in the business. the shame is that it only gets worse as you get along - the ppl who make partner, MD, etc.
you notice the real OG's in this business who know their shit are ppl who had no connection to the business but do it because they like it and are good at it. not to throw shade, just a fact of life that jobs with big rewards are not as meritocratic as you'd like.

A lot of people find jobs through their network and connections. This is quite common and especially in PE

I would be really jealous of people getting jobs through connections, especially because I know how hard it is to find jobs through my own efforts, but you should still take the job as anyone else would if in your shoes

Yeah just do it man. You don’t need to feel bad about getting to a place through your network and once you join the firm you’ll slowly realize probably a third or so of your peers would’ve had some type of similar connection that you did

Funniest

If the diversity candidate is going to use her skin color and genitals to land an offer, then you bet your ass you should use your connections to land an offer

Remember, always be kind-hearted.

Yeah mate you should

It’s so competitive to apply through a job portal or recruiter. Just apply, anyone would in your shoes
