Is MF PE Attainable

I'm a senior at an ND/Georgetown/UMich tier school going FT to a solid group at a mid level BB. Following up on the recent post here about paths to PE, I was wondering what the odds of getting looks will be for someone with good academics (3.95+ GPA, 1550+ SAT) but mediocre campus involvement.

TLDR: How much does campus involvement/leadership matter for MF PE recruiting?

Are you a URM? If not, it’s going to be an uphill battle. I would put it low odds.

From what I have seen there are plenty of people with your profile at MF PEs and/or that get looks. A lot of it may depend on who is currently running recruiting / heavily involved with associates at the moment at each fund and his/her/their educational background. That said, basically every MF PE fund by now currently has or has had people from all the targets/mid-level targets like Mich and the like from what I know. Also some of it may depend on which coverage group you are in at your BB. If it’s a hot sector and/or a sector that PE fund wants to increase exposure to over the next 5 years or whatever, that may likely help you out. For example I think one of the kids who got Apollo my year went to Michigan. I remember meeting with a BarCap FIG analyst who went to like Gtown or BC during on-cycle at their offices. Have seen a variety of people at BX and the like as well. My memory is telling me that during my time / my class years, BX had a certain amount of ND people too in their PE classes. I hope this helps. Good luck
