Lateraling Impact on MBA Applications
Does anyone have insight on how lateraling as an IB analyst will impact MBA admissions?
For context, I lateraled from a lower tier BB to a top tier BB after ~9 months. I then recruited for PE and landed a MF PE associate role. I’ll be starting this summer (2022), so all in will have spent ~15 months at my new bank. My current plan is then to do 2 years in PE firm and go to business school.
Will admissions view this trajectory negatively (too much movement in rapid succession)? Will they view this positively (ability to prove myself and progress quickly)?
As a corollary, how will this impact my approach to recommendations? Not sure of the recommendation structure for schools like HBS / GSB / Wharton (i.e., how many recommenders they request, from how many prior roles, etc.), but want to keep this in mind too.
Any direction would be greatly appreciated!
