M&A Tax - PE

I know this is a bit off topic as everybody on this forum wants to break into the financial side of Private Equity, but I was wondering if anybody had any insight on the Tax groups within the top PE firms.

For context, I am going for my MS in Tax and will complete it in May 2025 (BS Accounting). I just finished an internship in the FDD group at a Big 4 firm and most of the interns (myself included) were not given return offers, supposedly due to market conditions as we were told.

I have some interviews coming up for M&A Tax roles at other Big 4 firms and have been weighing my options about potentially switching to a large Private Equity firm eventually to help out their Tax branch/structuring side. I've seen some Tax Director/Principal positions at the top PE firms and was wondering if carry works the same way for the tax side. Might be a dumb question but I wasn't sure if only the Deal Team are able to receive carry. I'm assuming the Tax side would get a lower % of carry if they do receive it, however, I'm not sure.

Thanks in advance for any feedback and sorry for the word salad
