MFPE from Mid-Tier BB Top Group

Is it possible to break into MFPE if you're at a group like M&A/LevFin from a place like BAML/Citi? Curious because it seems like top BBs/EBs get all the looks and wondering if I should try to recruit for FT/lateral after a year.

I'm quite sure you can find people who have. I would look at your group more specifically and see if anyone has gone there in the last 3 years.

Realistically, it's difficult because 1. the odds for MF are so low to begin with and they have pick of the litter, often staying with the same top groups as they know what to expect from the hires 2. if you tell HHs you want MF, you're missing out on a lot of MM opportunities and potentially wasting your oncycle... so people try to be realistic about where they are going.

The top groups that send to MFs do not really recruit for FT or lateral as they simply don't have spots that open up. Their SAs are there for a very specific reason - exits - they're not going to switch for FT or leave early. I would aim for MM/UMM (whatever is realistic with your group's historical exits) and you can move up once you're in PE.
