Some members of the investment team at Veritas have security clearances so that they can more easily perform due diligence on businesses that do classified work for the government.
There is a surprising amount of ex-IC people in aerospace and defense PE across the board. Unless used (which I doubt DD would include) clearance is typically lost after 2 years.
This is true generally but Veritas has managed to keep clearances active - I don't know how. It's hugely helpful in the DD process because it means they don't have to hire outside experts with active clearances the way other GPs do. I've seen it in action on deals and it's a large competitive advantage.
