Move to Canadian PE Senior Associate?

Working in M&A IB in the US for the past 5 years (currently associate) and have ended up staying longer than I would have liked. Would like to move into more of an investing role in Canada, is it common to be able to exit into a senior associate role at a MM / LMM PE or at one of the Canadian pension funds at this stage ? Or given how small the Canadian PE industry is and being further along the banking path, would this be less probable?
