Need advice

Hi everyone.

A little background on myself. Spent a year in valuation services. Got bored so started recruiting for other stuff. Had an IB offer but decided against it. Only wanted to do IB to open doors to PE. Ended up accepting a strategic corporate finance role.

Now, two months into my new job, a good friend has advocated for me for a deal team role at his private equity shop (analyst level, not associate) and they’ve reached out to me. I’m feeling torn because my current company treats me SO well, but in 5 years I may regret not at least pursuing this opportunity and seeing what happens. I’d feel serious guilt leaving my new company so soon though.

Any input on what to do here?

I would compare the benefits of both. If your total job pays you well and you like the work, then I would think carefully about leaving. If you can stay in contact with your friend, maybe ask him if he needs to bring you onboard immediately or if you guys can connect again when you realize whether or not you feel like your current job is something you wanna do for the long-term.

I can relate to that. Since I started at my current role about 11 months ago I've taken on way more controllership and FP&A responsibilities which I don't want at all. I'd have a long discussion with your friend then about his firm, the potential for growth there, and what your role would really entail. I'd rather read a hundred CIMs a day then be doing more accounting and fp&a.
