next steps after PE

Considering options after UMM PE associate stint and would appreciate any perspectives on the possible paths. Have been reviewing old WSO posts, Google, etc but having trouble synthesizing

- Business school with return offer to same fund (not guaranteed, good fund though)
- No business school, lateral to a different PE shop
- No business school, lateral to HF
- Have interest in turnarounds: remaining in traditional PE vs special situations/distressed PE, or traditional HF vs activist fund

Would be really great to hear any thoughts as I feel like I don’t understand next steps well at all, especially how recruiting even works. Thank you

I think a lot of this is highly personal dependent. I liken it to understanding and being very introspective with (i) what are you good at and have significantly progressed at, and (ii) what do you enjoy and naturally gravitate to. It's easy to listen to signal / noise from everyone around you but I'd get out a sheet of paper and start to lists your strengths and weaknesses, what you enjoy and don't enjoy and narrow it from there.

There's a lot of ways to make money in this world - it's about finding where you're going to crush it
