On cycle prep - too late to start?

Is it too late to prepare from ground 0 for on cycle. Have been traveling and willing to invest as much time as needed as long as there is a decent chance of placing given 2 weeks of prep until training and 2 weeks during training. Thanks

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some key points to consider regarding on-cycle preparation:

  1. Immediate Preparation is Crucial:

    • The minute there's an inkling that on-cycle is coming up, you need to start preparing as if it's launching tomorrow. Procrastination can lead to being unprepared and missing out on top-choice firms. (Source: "Did on cycle just start? | Wall Street Oasis")
  2. Preparation Strategy:

    • Focus on the essentials: know the fund and its strategy, read the news, understand your deals, and master LBO technicals. It's not about being a genius but being well-prepared. (Source: "2023 On-cycle is a disaster | Wall Street Oasis")
  3. Balancing Prep with Work:

    • If you have protected time (like weekends), use it effectively to prepare. Spending a few hours each weekend can keep you from falling behind. (Source: "2023 On-cycle is a disaster | Wall Street Oasis")
  4. Risks of Being Unprepared:

    • Jumping into on-cycle recruiting without being fully prepared can be detrimental. If you interview with firms and get no offers, you might not get a second chance with them. It's better to wait until you are over-prepared. (Source: "DONT DO ON-CYCLE...If you’re not prepared | Wall Street Oasis")
  5. Timing and Flexibility:

    • The timing of on-cycle recruiting is unpredictable. It's essential to be flexible and ready to start at any moment. (Source: "Did on cycle just start? | Wall Street Oasis")

Given your situation, if you can dedicate significant time over the next four weeks (two weeks before training and two weeks during training), you might still have a decent chance. However, ensure that your preparation is thorough and focused on the key areas mentioned above.

I mean you probably have at lease 2 weeks, at most probably like 3 maybe 4. It is a tight window, but no point in not prepinng if you have nothing else to do because you will just get some of what you would need to do for off-cycle out of the way. But don't force yourself to do On-cycle if you are unprepared, no point in blacklisting yourself from a fund or HH, especially when the same opportunity will be there off-cycle.

After talking with second years I decided I’m sitting out. A ton of people in my group placed at NY UMM - MF buyout post oncycle craze. Seems like another wave around January is typical

I have been traveling since grad and don’t want to fck up HH relations
