Their track record has taken a hit, look at Gluskin Sheff and WestJet. They did no succession planning and the future of the firm is in question as well, which led to a lot of talented juniors leaving over the past few years. I don’t think ONCAP is doing well either

Appreciated.  Not that they'd ever consider riff-raff like me (was an MBA associate at RBC) but I remember looking at what their VP pay was and was like 'huh, that's basically the same as large bank pays in the US and that's like 10x easier to get into and also less sweaty - think I'm going to go to the US' and then proceeded to do so.  I'm sure ONEX partners back in the day made a lot more on top of cash comp from carry but I feel slightly vindicated that that at my level, it probably wouldn't have worked out and so feel better about my decision.
