Selling for a PE Fond

Good morning,

as a future private equity intern, I was wondering if it is possible to do a part-time job as a salesperson for a PE fund while studying.

I think one could not only earn good money but also gain valuable experience and knowledge.

How do you guys see it and what is the best way to get it?

PE fundraising isn't really "sales" but rather a whole vein of the industry called investor relations.

This is very much a full-time job and tends to be fairly competitive to get into. You are dealing with sophisticated investors making allocation decisions, so they absolutely aren't going to send an intern out to do this... also pretty rare to go directly from college. Most IR folks are former IB/PE professionals looking for a better lifestyle.

Nice idea but not really how the industry does things

Thanks for the reply and the insights.

May I ask you what your approach would be if you wanted to gain valuable experience and knowledge in the industry with the goal of doing a PE deal with holding stake or building a PE fund yourself?

Besides the theoretical finance topics you learn to make an investment decision, you would probably need IR, marketing, controlling and much more for such a venture.

That's where my idea came from to deal with investors to learn from their mindset and financial decisions and tactics.
