Pathways into American buyside as Australian

I'm an Australian looking to get into an American buyside job, hopefully in New York. Can someone suggest some potential pathways to do this? Please mention specific unis if relevant to your response.

Do PE at a strong brand in Australia -> US M7 MBA -> pray you land

Alternatively, work at an American firm in Australia and get them to bring you over after a few years

Not going to be possible to get recruited directly to NY from Australia, so you need to get a great job over there first.

US visas are generally incredibly difficult to get, and most buyside firms don't want to go through the hoops to sponsor when they have plenty of qualified people who are US citizens with no hassle. London might be easier and I think the visas are easier for Australians

Met a handful of Australians in the US on the buyside.

If you're still in high school, go to a target school in the US

If you're already in college / started work, get the best job possible in Australia and then ask for an internal transfer.

If you have a great job in Sydney and *critically*, already have gained some PE experience, then go to HSW (Harvard / Stanford / Wharton) for your MBA (going into a reputable PE shop post-MBA  without pre-MBA experience in PE even from HSW is extremely hard, and everything is made harder by the fact you don't have the US passport)
