PE firms and MBAs - 2021 Update

While 15 or 20 years ago, it may have been a necessity, or just general understanding, to get an MBA prior to advancing a career in finance, it seems like that trend has generally unwound today.

Could anyone provide insight into firms that they know do still require MBAs? Street word is that some of the old line, middle market firms still might, whereas the major MFs have stopped doing so. But, any specific names, either that do, or don't, would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

From my understanding, it's a hit or miss. It seems that largely having an MBA is becoming less important as:

1) MBAs are taking in less people with the IB/PE experience, which means that less deal experienced people are available to hire from MBA schools -or-

2) There are a ton of very talented people that aren't seeing the value-add of 2 years of networking / hanging out when they could close 2-4 more platforms and/or get some real operational experience that are looking to lateral early = plenty of good talent coming to your doorstep without having to train from scratch.

It depends on your goals, but for me the value prop is dropping. Curious what other people think.
