PE Recruiting for International Students

Anybody have any insights on how PE recruiting for IBD analysts who are international works? I have heard one needs to be selected for the H1-B lottery before transitioning into PE?

Also, if more senior people have insights-- are PE funds generally open to sponsoring green cards?

Also curious about how on-cycle recruiting works, since most international first year analysts will still be on OPT. Would this be a deal breaker during recruiting, even if we have STEM OPT and have 3 shots for H1B lottery?

As background, I recruited on-cycle in 2018 while on OPT. 2 tracks: - Singaporeans/Canadians/Australians with H1B1/TN/E3 eligibility. It'll be more difficult for you than for US citizens/green card holders, but the important thing is to educate headhunters that there is basically no risk to you starting. Certain places still won't look at you but if you have a solid background, you should get enough interviews to keep busy - Unfortunately for others it's super tough. A few tips/things to think about: (1) apply for H1B your senior year of college, (2) if you don't get it, consider pushing recruiting to your second ro third year to get 2 more shots at H1B, (3) think about London or Toronto.
