PE Supply and Demand

(1) How many spots open up yearly at the top ~15 PE funds? It seems to me that everyone is gunning for these positions, and only a handful will actually get them.

(2) On a similar note, how many top-tier candidates go into PE recruiting every year? I would imagine that these include 2nd year analysts from GS/MS/BX/GHL/LZR/EVR/MLS (JPM?)

(3) Out of the guys who fill top PE spots, what percentage actually comes from these top firms?

jnr,

If you aren't at a top bank with a fantastic academic background getting decent experience, you're at a severe disadvantage and should have a backup plan. Forget the analytics. There is too much "noise" and too many intangibles to do an accurate assessment.
