What did they bump to?
V anecdotal but I know if one MM fund ($1.5Bn fund size) bumping associate base from $125 to $150. No word on bonus. I also know of another fund ($1Bn fund size) that bumped post MBA associates from $175 to $200 (100% target bonus)

Bumps to 125 or 150 is what would make sense in this range hoping others follow suit

I haven’t seen a lot of MMs bumping due to COVID - market is too fragmented. Still seeing $120-140 base + 100% bonus at MMs that I know.

It’s wild seeing some of these banking numbers compared to the MM PE world now. Kind of thinking it was a mistake to make the move to be honest
Congrats on being in such a great and enviable spot. Ignore my title (just didn't update) but MBB does feed quite well into PE but you won't have the whole universe of shops available to you. For example, my peers went to H&F, Advent, Permira, Bain Cap, TA, Insight, etc. but did not have an opportunity to work at the likes of BX, Carlyle, etc. It really just depends on what type of PE shop you want to work at but every single person that recruited in my class ended up at a very well known UMM / MF PE shop

Haven't heard anything about pay raises for junior folks on the private credit side, need more voices behind it. IB comp making these exit opps look dry af now.
really is. I'm in early stage talks with a few firms now but it's looking like the money factor might hold me back for another year til I get some more clarity.
Trying to fight this fight now in my direct lending group. Granted we were already behind the curve and haven't tweaked comp levels in 5 years, so it was already overdue

This side of the fence will move very slowly to meet increases I think. You have a lot of ancient boomers who just sit there and do nothing while accruing all the benefit to themselves. They won't move until they start seeing pain, and that pain won't come until all their mid level folks experience pain because they can't get junior support. It will take a full recruiting cycle at least, where far fewer people are choosing to leave banking for PE/PC. It's also far more fragmented than IB or Big Law where all the firms move in lock-step. Maybe I'm wrong, but I have these arguments every day with senior guys about how we need to make sure junior staff is happy so they don't leave. Most of the time it falls on deaf ears. When the junior depth collapses and I literally have to do everything myself...I might just leave too.

Agreed -- senior guys won't move unless they start to lose people. And I think generally they view anyone sub-VP as fungible. One leave another one will show up, etc.
Only exception to this may be if firms have a very low win rate in the fall hiring season. That will raise some red flags.
From the perspective of VP level and seeing my friends from MBA recruit into investing roles.. it sucks out there comp-wise compared to banking. I have a bunch of friends looking at $350-450 for VP at MM/LMM, coming out of MBA with 6 YOE (8-10 years out of UG). There is carry but you don't get paid on that for many years, and I'm not sure it makes up for lower cash comp for so long.

MM VP getting 350k. Which firms..? Maybe Golub? Most MMs wouldn't pay that low for a VP1. Assoc1 base is already 140-150 standard with ~100% bonus.
Agree, BB Banking Assoc1 now are gonna be at ~300-350k
I think $350 is pretty up the middle with LMM and trickling into the smaller MMs, especially outside of NY
have seen 350-400 being a very common number for vp1 at 750m-1.5b funds

Work at BX and haven't heard anything yet.
FYI - all main investing strategies, at least that holds true for PE / REPE / TacOpps / Credit, are paid the same base and bonus, so raise should be across all strategies if it is true.

Can confirm that three PC shops bumped analyst base. These were all return offers, so I have no idea about associate comp.

Don't want to get so specific cause credit side is much smaller, but think of shops that typically take interns. The bump was to 100k base, and I think most were at 85-90 before.
And what did they raise to?
We need more voice / communication here. There is something unnerving about a Baird first-year making more all-in compensation than me w/ three years of experience and two years in PE.

I know for a fact my shop (MM) is contemplating comp increases after several folks voiced concerns around being underpaid. Don’t know what the exact amount will be yet.
MM PE shop raised base to $115k for first-year analysts
Ares analysts bumped to $110k base and associates bumped to $150k base. I work at Ares.

Unfortunately don’t know for first year analysts but for experienced analysts the bonus was in the 100%-115% range. Hope this helps.
