Anyone have a good estimate for this? (percent by value obviously)

Would it really be percent of US companies owned by PE firms, or percentage of US workers, total assets under management and market cap of companies managed by PE firms in the US? Cause # of companies seems messy - jimbos diner, or some random assed llc in nevada could be on the same level as sears holdings or microsoft.
No idea and I doubt anyone would be able to give you a proper answer. The most common metric to detemine PE penetration in a country is 'PE Investment / GDP' - latest data I have on that is as follows (numbers are for 2010 I think)
UK - 1.13% US - 0.9% India - 0.44% Brazil - 0.23% China - 0.16%
PE AUM is about 2.5 - 3 trillion I believe.
Data would be best on a earning metric basis. e.g. % of revenue produced by PE owned firms
