Product Management to Private Equity

Hello all,

Working in product management for 2.5years. Currently a pre-MBA product analyst. I'm slowly getting attracted to finance. Help me how I can make my transition to finance (PE). I've healthcare, EV automobile background.

Here is how I'm thinking about it -
Option ONE: Transition to VC analyst -> MBA -> PE
Option TWO: MBA -> Consultant (for 2yrs) -> PE
Option THREE: clear CFA L1/FRM -> MBA -> PE

All thoughts are welcome.
Feel free to burst this bubble if you think this is wishful thinking.

Wishful thinking. Option 2 is possible, but very rare and hard

Figure out some way to get into an investment banking analyst program (maybe a tech group if you're current background is product). Grind it out for 2-3 years, try to get done as many deals as possible, and then recruit for PE associate roles. This is generally the most surefire path in the US, though your location says India so I am not sure how PE recruiting differs over there.

There are more product managers than industry required at this point, my company hired a product manager for a feature with no clarity of the roles roadmap ahead.

That's the thing I like about IB/PE - small and lean team size.

My friend.. it seems like you havent done enough research on bschool, bschool exits, IB, IB recruiting, PE recruiting.. and even why you want to do PE. Id suggest (i) you spend more time trying to figure out what you want to do because literally neither path makes sense, and (ii) whatever you plan to do post grad doesn’t matter.. please just dont tell the bschool adcoms that you want to do PE post grad or be prepared for a ding..
