Reference for UMM PE

UMM PE shop has asked for references, specifically stating they want more than the "yes he worked here".

My Ex boss now moved to a BB is happy to write me one and is asking for precedents - is anyone able to suggest idea's of what should go in a reference letter/would be willing to share an annonymised precedent that they wrote or received?

Many thanks for helping with this one!

One partner specifically wanted a written reference and not contact details and the other (in slightly different sector) asked for contact details of the individuals providing my references. So my Q is about what sort of stuff should be in the written reference, I suppose could also be answered by what sort of stuff will the partner discuss on the phone with my referrer?

I wish I could disagree. Luckily he heads a sector i'll be less involved in.

Anything particular you find yourself asking when you've conducted a reference call in the past? Thanks

Not in NYC UMM? Hear you but honestly point still stands. These types of people suck to work for… everyone directly under them can only holds back the water for so long because working for a mean dingus pushes them to apathy… then guess what happens? You’re still multiple levels away from the sector head but you’re in their culture because everyone above you is tired from the antics so they conform.

One asked for contact details, and the other specifically wanted it in written form. I suppose he's less keen with contacting them - dispite specifically asking for written form, he somewhat dismissively said "it was in my referers hands" what was put in the reference. Sounds flippant I know, but he was leaving the room as I asked and that's sort of his vibe.

Do you have any ideas of the sort of stuff would be asked in the reference phone call, and I'll ask him to write to these notes in the reference. TIA.
