Skills and activities in MM PE

Hey all,

Have searched the forum for this but couldn’t find anything great. Hoping those in an associate/analyst role in MM PE & growth equity shops (where you have a buy side/portco mixed role) can share:

  1. What your average split of your time by different activities (eg 20% modelling a deal, 20% x etc.) is. I have a general feel for what the ‘day in the life of’ is and understand this is variable by role and deal activity, but would like to hear your experiences.

  2. What are the top soft and hard skills have you learnt from your experience in PE &/or GE?

Happy to be directed to links if there’s something I’ve missed.

Thanks

Experienced Associate

20% modeling

25% calls both internal and external

10% building investment memos

10% portfolio company work (reviewing board decks, evaluating acquisitions, etc.)

25% orchestrating diligence (managing lawyers, accountants, etc.)

10% reviewing legal docs, term sheets, etc.

No such thing as a “day in the life” bc it’s dependent on deal flow. It ebbs and flows.
