Space fund development efforts in 2017?
Just wondering what everyone is thinking, what is your perspective, what do you foresee?
Some thoughts about the topic: I think a compelling argument can be made with respect to automation and its effect on manufacturing paradigms when seen in context to public and private space programs. The success of companies like Blue Origin and Space-X in their initial minimum viable product demonstrations suggest a new cargo delivery market will in turn enable launch down payments and manifest insurance rates to become affordable to a wide and vast market of public and private contracting.
One example of this trend is in the emergence of a type of spacecraft system architecture called "Cubesat", which utilizes flight ready off-the-shelf legacy components and structural elements, essentially enabling a plug-and-play configuration for a host of applications including distributive earth-looking satellite monitoring systems, bitcoin blockchain node beaming constellations, internet constellations, beamed power constellations, gps constellations, and equatorial orbital modular micro-habitats for future large orbiting colonies requiring a constant supply of Asteroid returned resources producing water, air, and metals for the economy.
Imagine, a hundred future small startups effectively competing with Verizon and AT&T, scaling their services through orbital purchases and securing maintenance contracts for their constellations, purchasing and licensing their service orbit trajectories, or car companies like Tesla utilizing their own satellite networks. Open markets, all driven by the 21st century space economy. Reasonable scenario?
One could postulate the formation of a space based stock exchange, with some variant of commodities regulation enabling reliable logistical supply and support of the expanding frontier, I wonder what that would look like, what would be required to establish such an exchange, and all of the exciting questions of precedence that would arise in such a formation?
An emerging commercial space industry with reusable commercial launch systems, asteroid mining companies, private orbital space stations, the Space-X ITS Heart of Gold, how can the off-world colonization efforts be funded in a synergistic investment strategy that intelligently mitigates risk while capitalizing on the potential LEO economy and the envisioned EU Lunar global village proposed for the Lunar near-side Shackleton crater?
Also, new here, first post, recent law school graduate, working on Wall Street, interested in career advancement and networking, hi!
Regards, Jim
A space based stock exchange would for "regulatory reasons" be placed on earth because the distances involved would make HFT difficult. Actually maybe this idea is genius...
Thank you! I am brainstorming about this, drafting some of my ideas in an abstract, I am wondering if anyone would bother to be interested in reading something in this field. I like the connection between HFT and distances, there may be some interesting topics to explore there.
