Stonepeak Model Test?

I am recruiting for Infra PE and had a couple model tests in the past two months. However, all of them were a 3-statement LBO with a balance sheet to balance. However, most of the modeling I do on a day-to-day revolves around assets under construction and more project finance-eque modeling. Does anyone have any insight into what to expect for the Stonepeak process?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights into what you might expect for the Stonepeak process:

  1. Modeling Tests:

    • 3-Statement LBO Models: As you've experienced, many firms, including Stonepeak, often use 3-statement LBO models in their tests. This involves creating a balance sheet that balances, which is a common requirement.
    • Project Finance Models: Given your day-to-day work revolves around assets under construction and project finance, it's possible that Stonepeak might include elements of project finance modeling in their tests. This could involve cash flow modeling, debt schedules, and sensitivity analysis specific to infrastructure projects.
  2. Focus Areas:

    • Assets Under Construction: Be prepared to model scenarios involving the construction phase of assets, including capital expenditures, construction timelines, and funding requirements.
    • Operational Metrics: You might need to focus on key operational metrics relevant to infrastructure projects, such as capacity utilization, revenue projections based on asset performance, and maintenance costs.
  3. Technical Skills:

    • Excel Proficiency: Ensure your Excel skills are sharp, as you'll likely need to build complex models efficiently.
    • Financial Statement Analysis: Be comfortable with analyzing and projecting financial statements, as this is a core part of LBO and project finance models.
  4. Preparation Resources:

    • WSO Courses: Consider leveraging WSO's financial modeling courses, such as the Excel Modeling Course and the Financial Statement Modeling Course, to refine your skills.
    • Mock Interviews: Utilize WSO's mock interview services to practice and get feedback on your modeling tests.

By focusing on these areas, you can better prepare for the Stonepeak process and increase your chances of success.
