Targeting Industry Groups - MF Recruiting

What does the interview process look like for MFs where they don't have a generalist program?

Do you recruit directly for certain groups at the start or does that happen later in the interview process/after you have an offer.

Also how does the conversation with headhunters go regarding your industry preference.

For better context: I'm planning on doing on-cycle and would love to be in a generalist program but if not would prefer a consumer group.

I know you don't have a ton of control and a MF offer is a MF offer but I'm curious how the process works.

(Also for people who know about MF consumer groups, would love to hear about how the associate experience is at specific firms)
