How many of you on the list are from Boston? Boston is known as a buyside city, maybe an insurance city, and lately a political city. What do people do here?
Do these opportunities exist here in Boston? - Bulge Bracket IB - Prop Desks - Sell Side equity/FI desks
This city more than most is a boutique town (ignoring of course the large buyside players). There are pockets of amazing jobs at small hedge funds, pe shops, buy side trading, but I feel like you have to be in the gentleman's club to get there. These shops do not come recruiting or have super days. How do you break into this secret world?
I'm 1 year out now from a target with a good GPA and a BB internship. Currently at a different BB, but really want to get paid. Coming out in last years job market really manifested some low ball offers. Feel free to PM me with any opportunities or if you just want to discuss my perception of the Boston market.

For that I'd suggest googling banks in the area. Try Harris Williams and Moelis. Just call them until you get an MD on the line and say that your ready to work.
Interested in this, too, espeically for prop shops, boutiques and insurance companies. As for BBs some are actually recruiting at target schools in and near Boston, and I occasionally saw the posts from DB and other BBs. But there aren't many internship positions out there because the offices themselves are relatively small comparing to NY.
Boston doesn't compare particularly well to NY. Traditional buyside opportunites are common in mutual funds, and a CFA is your golden ticket if you want to pursue those. As far as alternatives go, things aren't that great. There are only 4 legit HFs in Boston at the moment (Baupost, Highfields and a couple others), and the focus of most PE shops is MM or tech. There are some very large FoF like Harbourvest too.
Finding these opportunities is difficult unless you went to Harvard. At lesser Boston-area schools, the most typical employers would be sell-side players like Jefferies.
Boston is more VC-oriented but there are a few very legit PE shops like Advent International. I think there is a list on here somewhere with a list of PE firms in Boston.
Throw in there Bain Capital / TH Lee / Audax / TA Associates / Summit / etc. I suppose you can throw Spectrum Equity and Weston Presidio in there as well. Not all megafunds but definitely excellent shops.
As for banking opportunities, this one is better left to NYC. There were a few boutiques (Lane Berry comes to mind) that recruited exclusively at Wharton and Harvard but has been since snatched up by larger banking firms.
Definitely a bunch of asset managers and insurance companies that have banking/debt/trading groups.
Providence Equity Partners are not too far away, as well.
