Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights into top-performing funds and their cultures in Europe, particularly focusing on the Nordics, DACH, and Benelux regions:

Top Performing Funds in Europe:

  1. Tier 1/MFs:

    • KKR
    • Advent
    • CVC
  2. Tier 1.5/MFs:

    • Blackstone (BX)
    • EQT

  3. Tier 2:

    • Cinven
    • Bain Capital
    • Warburg Pincus
    • Apax Partners
    • General Atlantic (mainly Growth Equity)
    • Silver Lake
    • Apollo Global Management
    • Hellman & Friedman (H&F)

Culture Insights:

  • HG: Known for having a challenging culture, especially within their tech funds (large, mid, lower).
  • BC Partners: Had their 'glory days' but the current culture and performance may vary.

Additional Insights:

  • H.I.G. Capital: Known for fantastic returns, particularly in the mid-market buyout space in London.

Considerations:

  • Language Skills: Speaking several European languages can be a competitive advantage in these regions, though it may not be strictly necessary depending on the firm and role.

These insights should help you get a clearer picture of the top-performing funds and their cultures in the Nordics, DACH, and Benelux regions. If you need more specific details or have other questions, feel free to ask!

Waterland is widely known to be one of (if not the single) top firm in the region/europe on a performance basis. They have so many deals over 4x that they charge super-carry, and then a super-super-carry tier for the real homeruns and are still able to fundraise as they wish

In the Nordics, strong local funds with good deal flow atm are (apart from the ones alr mentioned): Adelis (MM), Verdane (tech), Fidelio (LMM/MM), Summa and Trill (MM and impact), Impilo (healthcare), Procuritas (LMM), Norvestor (LMM/MM), Investor/Patricia (MM/UMM)

Thanks for the insight, what's your view of say Altor vs FSN vs Summa (for background speak English and German if it makes any difference)

Were you able to find information on pay within these countries? Obviously, high taxes, but that's good for healthcare and education for the family. What is the work-life balance?

In Europe, there is Waterland and then there is everybody else... From what I've seen, completely unmatched performance with fees to match
