Transferring Countries - IB, AM, PE, Trading or other

Currently in the US, non-target school, bachelors finance. Planning on returning to Switzerland to attend HSG ( University St. Gallen) for their Masters Banking and Finance program. I read in this forum and on the school site etc. that they work closely with major banks (CS, UBS, etc.) (Meet and greets 1st week, they collaborate for school projects etc.) and chances of entering from that school should be pretty decent.

I wish to live in the US in the long run and have family here. Is it realistic to work at a bank in Switzerland or Germany / Austria for a few years and then transfer to the US? Internally or applying to a different firm?

Just trying to get industry insight of what is common. Also what timeframe would be acceptable and does the sector / position matter?

I am mostly interested in Trading and buyside. Visas and languages are not a problem. (Schengen, Swiss and US citizenship)
