Veritas Interviews

Hey everybody -

I have an interview with Veritas coming up for an experience associate role. I’ve heard from multiple sources that Veritas grills people with technicals and has a pretty hard modeling test as well. Could someone who’s gone through the process (or any comparable ones) help me understand what hard technicals means / entails? Having spent a few years in PE, I figured I’d be largely covered by reviewing my deals in depth and brushing up with one of the classic interview guides but I’m doubting myself a bit now. Imagine the bar might be even higher so want to make sure I’m handling prep in the right way

Any guidance would be much appreciated!

Based on previous WSO threads, here are some insights on preparing for technical interviews, especially for roles that are known to be rigorous:

  1. Understanding "Hard Technicals":

    • Modeling Questions: Expect detailed financial modeling questions, including LBO (Leveraged Buyout) models, DCF (Discounted Cash Flow) analysis, and M&A (Mergers and Acquisitions) models.
    • Industry-Specific Questions: Be prepared for questions that are specific to the industry you are interviewing for. This could include sector-specific metrics and valuation techniques.
    • Case Studies: You might be given case studies to solve, which will test your practical application of financial concepts and your ability to think critically under pressure.
  2. Preparation Tips:

    • Review Your Deals: As you mentioned, reviewing your past deals in depth is crucial. Be ready to discuss the rationale, structure, and outcomes of these deals.
    • Interview Guides: Utilize classic interview guides such as those from Wallstreet Prep or BIWS. These guides are comprehensive and cover a wide range of technical questions.
    • Rosenbaum and Pearl: Reading "Investment Banking: Valuation, Leveraged Buyouts, and Mergers & Acquisitions" by Rosenbaum and Pearl is highly recommended. It’s a staple for understanding the technical aspects of investment banking.
  3. Additional Resources:

    • WSO Elite Modeling Package: This package includes courses on financial modeling, Excel, PowerPoint, and more. It’s designed to help you master the technical skills required for high finance roles.
    • Private Equity Interview Course: This course includes LBO modeling tests and other relevant materials that can help you prepare for the technical aspects of PE interviews.
  4. General Advice:

    • Practice, Practice, Practice: The more you practice, the more comfortable you will become with the technical questions. Use online resources, mock interviews, and practice tests to hone your skills.
    • Stay Calm and Confident: Technical interviews can be daunting, but staying calm and confident can make a big difference. Remember, the interviewers are not just testing your knowledge but also how you handle pressure.

By following these guidelines and utilizing the resources available, you should be well-prepared for your interview with Veritas. Good luck!
