What should I do?

Going to try to keep this as short as possible bc for the first time in my career I feel truly unsure of the right answer so hoping some experienced people can give some insight.

Background:

-2-year stint as IB analyst@ middle market shop (i.e. Jefferies

-Moved to corp dev role for 2 years & was on track for early promotion

-But due to unforeseen circumstances, had to leave corp dev & take over family business (albeit growing) in an executive capacity within manufacturing space (which eventually led to me to leading & executing a sale in which I was running point on all process points — EPA, legal, model, VDR, etc)

-Took a few months off to travel & when I came back got offer from headhunter to join tech company in strategic finance capacity (mid-manager level)

But role was not as described (all FP&A & no M&A) + I realize I do miss the execution work, so for past 2mo. I’ve been trying to pivot into investing PE roles (non-operational) at LMM & MM funds but unsure if lack of traction I’m seeing is due to 1) it’s too late in career to join as a associate / senior associate roles it regardless of multi-years of M&A experience or 2) if timing for PE job market is overall suboptimal now for off cycle? Fielding all perspectives since I’m feeling a bit lost atm but appreciate any help / advice.

***Also debating if an MBA makes sense but truthfully I’m less inclined to pursue as I don’t see what the clear path forward would be.

I will never understand why people with family wealth want to be disrespected and treated like filth as an IB Analyst / PE Associate.

Man, just take another half a year off to travel and land in some cushy Corp Fin job making like $115K remotely. Do it for the rest of us that can't.
