Where to Find Good CFOs

VP at a services focused fund doing buy and build. We have a pretty interesting business in the services space but have been living off temporary CFOs for over a year now. Its turning into a mess. The CEO and sales leaders don't know if their strategies are working or not, dont have a pulse on cost control, etc. Partner that leads the deal is running a search (poorly IMO) but keeping it close to the vest and there have been no hits. As a result, Associate and I absorbing most of the CFO duties. We are bombarding management with data requests (from the Partner) but there is no one at the Company competent enough to keep up. The root cause is we don't have a CFO...

Any advice on how I can take matters into my own hands without totally pissing off my boss? Feels like a lack of urgency on finding a CFO.
