Which MF PE firms do SM hedge funds / cross-over funds recruit from?

Career Resources
Every major MF will get interviews and offers. UMMs as well, although some historically have been stronger than others on this front (e.g. Berkshire Partners).
Notably, in recent years there's been a much stronger indexing towards PE analyst programs, which affects the mix (e.g. Blackstone, KKR, Silver Lake, Bain, etc.)

out of curiosity, why does berkshire do a better job of placing HF analysts than other UMM/MMs?
How would you view going to a specialized MF like Thoma vs. the Software team at TPG? Do they both get the same looks at these SMs?
Is there a preference for MF over UMM?
Literally every single one of them. The only reason why some place more is because of self selection (i.e., better to be a career PE investor at some MFs than others).
I heard there are specifically 8 MF's the top hedge funds target. I can guess the top 4 but it feels like there are so many big funds these days not sure about the last 4 lol. Does anybody know?
