Why are junior positions posted but senior positions aren't?

I've noticed among the larger funds and others that post roles on their career page...that the roles are almost always analyst/associate roles...and VP / principal / MD roles are never broadly marketed. Is there a reason for this? Why are senior roles never openly posted?

Good question, usually they always recruit internally for senior positions. Unless they can’t get anyone or have someone from another office lateral, then it gets posted online. As you go up, information becomes more sensitive, higher risk if someone dips or goes to another firm, and you want to reward those that made it. Almost like a hive mind concept but it’s way harder to sell the promise of making to juniors if most of the seniors are external hires/haven’t been through the trenches.
