Why would a PE partner call me for a chat?

So I went to a target school in the US, but am working at a central bank. I have no experience in banking, and a tiny bit of experience in asset management. I do have a demonstrated interest in banking, but I seem to be a good fit for economic research only.

The person who called me for a chat on an SNS website (likedin, facebook etc) is a partner of a U$1bn private equity firm. He said he just wants to meet up for coffee.

Why would a PE person want to meet me?

Actually the $1bn part is true; the fact is that the fund is in a new country and looking to expand. How would a central bank employee fit into that picture? I have no idea, although I heard LBOs are sensitive to changes in interest rates, so that's that.

Most likely you have information he wants. We do the same thing with equity research analysts, people with ground experience in target industries, people who can shed insight on information we need, etc... Although, it's usually just a call, not coffee. Either way, good thing and good way to develop a relationship. Best of luck.
