Will firms fly us out for on-cycle?
I am currently in a Tier 2/3 city (HOU/DAL/AUS) and if I get invites to firms in for example Boston / New York will I be expected to fly there for on-cycle whenever it kicks off? I have no idea how the logistics of this would work given you need to prioritize different interview processes / can get cut at any minute during on-cycle
EDIT: No issues flying out for interviews but just unsure how this works if say I end up flying to New York but get cut and miss an interview in Boston
Bump. Same situation
How do UMM/MFs with a single office (Leonard Green, tech SF funds) do on cycle? Do they fly people to those cities or would they interview in NYC??
Based on the most helpful WSO content, the logistics of on-cycle interviews can be quite challenging, especially if you're located in a Tier 2/3 city like Houston, Dallas, or Austin and need to travel to major financial hubs like New York or Boston. Here's what you need to know:
Travel Expectations:
Firms may expect you to travel for in-person interviews, especially for on-cycle recruiting. However, this varies by firm. Some firms may accommodate virtual interviews, but others might insist on in-person meetings, particularly for final rounds or if they prioritize face-to-face interaction.
Travel Costs:
While some firms may cover or reimburse travel expenses for interviews, this is not guaranteed. According to WSO threads, candidates have shared mixed experiences—some firms booked travel for them or reimbursed costs, while others left it entirely up to the candidate. It's worth clarifying this with the firm or recruiter beforehand.
Logistical Challenges:
On-cycle recruiting is notoriously fast-paced and unpredictable. If you fly to one city (e.g., New York) and get cut from a process, you might miss opportunities in another city (e.g., Boston). This is a common concern, as the on-cycle process often involves overlapping interviews and tight schedules. Candidates frequently have to make tough decisions about which interviews to prioritize.
Strategies to Manage This:
Ultimately, while flying out for interviews is common, the fast-paced nature of on-cycle recruiting means you'll need to stay flexible and prepared to make quick decisions.
