80k/year (diff industry) 30-40 hours or 160k (CRE) 60 hours a week?
I have a couple offers of either work life balance and mid money or good money but no work life balance. The first one would be an industry change and the second one is a VP role.
Obviously the $160k seems nice but damn I do not wanna work those hours. It sounds awful and it’s in an industry I don’t like (CRE). Been doin this for 5 years and burnt out and hate it but this offer sounds so good. What do yall think?
you like work, RE
I said I don’t like it lol
160k sounds better, if money is not an issue - go with 80k
Right, that’s why I’m contemplating. Money wise I am okay.
No debt, mortgage not too high, $250k in retirement, 40k in HYSA, etc…
Is your bigger issue you don’t like CRE or you require a ~40 hour work week? If you hate the industry then get out but there are a ton of cushy jobs in CRE that your skill set probably somewhat applies to and pays better.
I’m not sure what your spending habits are but $290k in savings and $80k per year is definitely not cruise control mode. Another 5-10 years of saving/investing at a decent paying job and maybe you can live the nomad lifestyle in a 3rd world country? Not really sure what your long term goals are but make sure you factor in working a job you don’t love for X years vs. working a low paying job you kind of like forever.
What’s the other industry?
Non profit
You can probably find a 30-40 hour job in CRE making $140K. Look at debt asset management at a bank.
160k for a VP role? Sounds way too low, but can you live on 80k?
60 hours per week is not a no WLB situation. Take double the money for 50% more work.
80k is less than what kids make out of school. Find a better offer that gives you both
The $80k job will probably keep you trapped in the middle class, I doubt there's any real opportunities to make big money. If you're fine with Camrys and Applebee's do that. The $160k job probably has some room for long term income growth, if you're money motivated do that.
I have a spouse who bring in $180k as a first year doctor. We will be okay money wise and we have no debt.
Elsewhere you say 120k.. 200k together is still middle class unless you live in a VLCOL area. Even then, do you not want any better for your family/future?
Someone with the handle "i like work" is complaining about work.....
I would be worried that my high earning, and assumably highly motivated, doctor of a spouse would start to build resentment towards me for taking the easy way out. But maybe you're hung like a horse and it doesnt matter. idk. you know your situation better than us.
😂 but no she wouldn’t feel that way. She likes working. She’s a real go getter. I do a lot at the house that she isn’t able to do
is this rage bait
Buddy you will never be successful if you can’t work 60 hours a week
