Am I cooked or do I have a shot?
To start, I currently work in tech, specifically in AI, for a startup doing Marketing/BD. My equity is partially vested, and I am ready to leave (I am two years out of school). I have been looking into transitioning into CRE. I am still deciding which specific path to take, but working as an analyst at a major brokerage seems like the route I want to take. However, I am happy to get any analyst position in the NYC area. I have a BS in Business Administration from a major state school. I have had multiple networking meetings with people at brokerage firms over the past three months (JLL, Colliers, Cushman, CBRE), but it doesn't seem like they are hiring people with little to no experience. I hit it off with everyone I have networked with, but jobs seem scarce, and it doesn't help that I am transitioning from an unrelated industry. I am looking for advice on what I should be doing. Should I keep networking until I find something? Should I change my targets from major brokerages to smaller shops? What analyst roles are best for someone with no prior internship experience?

you’re never cooked. You have a good story. Market is tough but keep pushing. More importantly keep the hunger/enthusiasm. If you do the opportunity will come.
However, yes on targeting smaller shops. Just make sure they are active. I wouldn’t necessarily solely target brokerage either. Just try to break in to CRE with a reputable shop.. principal or brokerage, large or small.
Just chiming in to say that “cooked” is good zoomer slang. Most zoomer slang is pretty awful, but I like this one a lot.
Cooked is a top 5 zoomer slang word, glad I can being some knowledge to the table.
Know someone at one of those firms on a $1 billion+ a year team that reached out to interview me for an opening. Even with a personal connection and meeting some of the team informally, they've paused their process and are not hiring right now due to deal volume so would think none of those firms are really hiring right now and just trying to stay afloat.
That is the general consensus I have gotten from my informal meetings. Glad to hear its not just me.
large brokerage in usa. we are not re-hiring for positions when people leave.
