Appraisal Intern
I know this topic has been covered but i am looking for more specific information. I am currently a summer analyst for a small family repe shop. My end goal is to stay in acquisitions. when I go back to school in the fall I have an opportunity to work for the county doing appraisals (this is ab the only option in my school's town other than small commercial brokerage offices). My question is whether or not to pursue this opportunity. It is unclear but the posting makes me think it is strictly residential. Will any of the skills be transferable? Will it appear on my resume as if I am unsure what I want to do long term when I know I want to stay in acquisitions? Also when an employer is looking at my resume I want my summer position to be the first thing they see so could I list these jobs out of order on my resume? Any advice is helpful. Thanks.
Hi Future_HNDRXX, any of these discussions helpful:
Fingers crossed that one of those helps you.
Appraising for the county (mass appraisal) will not be beneficial for you in any way. If fee appraisal is the route you want to take, I would suggest cold calling local appraisers, who can be found on the appraisal institutes website, and ask if they would be willing to take on a trainee or research associate.
Not helpful in the least. Small commercial brokerage offices would help much more. Getting $15/hour at Chick Fil A would help more.
Do not get into appraisal if it's not your end goal - it's just not worth it and frankly at a gig like that, you won't actually learn anything at all.
Also, @CRE - you got any of those job apps? Asking for a friend...
